Client
Technology company with an idea to spread out their service
A US-based informational technologies company with over six years of experience with enterprise-level clients specialized in data warehousing and business intelligence solutions. Deriving intelligence from enterprise business data gave the client an idea of using the same techniques to provide similar services on a personal level. This idea expanded into a potential solution — a new brand developed by the client to provide high-precision medical consumables tracking services to potential customers.
Problem
Gap in the market provided a high-reward business opportunity
Despite existing tools like nutrition trackers and smart buttons, there was a gap in the market for an integrated platform that comprehensively manages personal medical and nutritional consumption. The customer recognized the need for a solution that not only tracks consumption but also provides actionable health insights, automates replenishment, and enhances overall quality of life.
Solution
Smart, integrated platform for health and consumables tracking
The customer initially developed a low-precision prototype to track generic consumables like office coffee. Building on this, we developed a platform combining high-precision hardware sensors and a sophisticated software system to track, analyze, and manage medical and nutritional consumption.
We integrated the new iOS-based platform with hardware, featuring consumables organization, medicine OCR, adherence tracking, notifications, gamification, and comprehensive user statistics. The backend part of the system featured handless activity recognition, data storage, statistics, reports, drug usage information, and hardware integration for high-precision measurement.
Challenge #1
Reliance on third-party data provider
The integration with various data providers comes with an ongoing risk of their internal process changes, affecting the API integration and potentially impacting system functionality. To proactively manage this risk, we developed alternative tools to import data even without direct integrations.
Challenge #2
Ensuring data privacy and compliance
Managing sensitive medical and personal data necessitated strict adherence to data privacy regulations like HIPAA and GDPR. We implemented all the necessary security measures, including encryption and access controls, to protect user data and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
Challenge #3
Scalability and performance optimization
As the user base grew, the platform needed to handle increasing amounts of data without compromising performance. We addressed this by refining storage practices, optimizing code, and utilizing scalable cloud infrastructure to ensure the platform remained fast and reliable under heavy load.
